Seven practical questions help you judge how a learning platform serves your institution beyond the demo.

A platform demo shows a product at its best. Day-to-day use brings different questions, especially once the first term is under way.

These are the questions we ask when evaluating a learning platform. We welcome the same questions about Ilmiya.

<a id="1-where-does-the-data-live-and-does-it-join-up"></a>

## 1\. Where does the data live, and does it join up?

Adapting to a learner depends on knowing them. If assessment sits in one system while attendance and reading information sit elsewhere, educators need a way to connect the record.

Ask to see a single learner’s record from end to end. Count how many logins and manual steps it takes to understand their progress.

## 2\. What does it remove from a teacher’s week?

A tool that adds personalisation also needs to account for the teacher’s workload. Ask which tasks your staff can stop doing and what the platform handles for them.

## 3\. Who can change content without a developer?

Routine edits are part of teaching. Find out how a teacher fixes a typo or adds a page, and whether that work depends on a developer’s release schedule.

<a id="4-what-happens-to-your-data-if-you-leave"></a>

## 4\. What happens to your data if you leave?

Ask to see an actual export. Check its format and whether another system can use it. A clear exit process gives your institution control over its records.

<a id="5-how-does-it-behave-when-a-learner-is-offline-or-on-a-phone"></a>

## 5\. How does it behave when a learner is offline, or on a phone?

Plenty of institutions run on shared devices and patchy connections. Try a lesson under those conditions before signing, and check what happens when a connection drops partway through.

<a id="6-how-does-accessibility-work-in-practice"></a>

## 6\. How does accessibility work in practice?

Ask what a screen reader announces for a lesson image and who checks that experience. A specific demonstration shows how accessibility works in the lessons your students use.

<a id="7-who-is-accountable-when-it-breaks-during-exam-week"></a>

## 7\. Who is accountable when it breaks during exam week?

Get the name of a responsible person and a response time. Confirm how your team reaches them when a problem affects an assessment.

<a id="what-deserves-less-weight"></a>

## What deserves less weight

Feature counts tell you little about which tools your institution needs. Focus on the work your teachers and learners do each week.

A roadmap describes an intention. Evaluate the capabilities available when you sign, and treat later plans as a separate consideration.

## Trying it properly

A useful evaluation starts with an ordinary course and its learners over a term. Include a teacher with a busy schedule so the trial represents the conditions in which the platform needs to work.

This gives your institution practical evidence before a longer commitment. We welcome that kind of evaluation. To start with a conversation, [get in touch](https://ilmiya.com/contact-us).
