# Fonts & Display

Canvas gives you full control over how the Quranic text is displayed. You can choose from multiple authentic Arabic scripts, adjust the font size, select a translation language, and toggle Tajweed colouring.

## Accessing Display Settings

Display settings are available from:

- The **Settings** tab on the Canvas home screen
- The **bottom toolbar** while reading a Surah

## Arabic Script (Font)

Canvas supports two authentic Quranic scripts:

| Script | Description |
| --- | --- |
| **Uthmani** | The most widely used standard script worldwide — based on the Hafs narration |
| **Madani** | The script used in the Madinah Mushaf — clear and widely recognized |
| **Indopak** | The script commonly used in South Asia (Pakistan, India, Bangladesh) |

Select the script that matches the Mushaf you’re most familiar with for the most comfortable reading experience.

> **Tip**
>
> If you’re unsure which script to use, **Uthmani** is the global standard and the most commonly taught in schools worldwide.

## Font Size

Adjust the size of the Arabic text to suit your screen and eyesight. Canvas offers **4 size levels** — Small, Medium, Large, and Extra Large.

Use the font size control in Settings or the toolbar to increase or decrease the size.

## Translation Language

When using **Translate mode**, Canvas displays a translation beneath each verse. You can select your preferred translation language from the settings.

Available translations vary depending on your organization’s configuration. Common options include English, Urdu, and other major languages.

## Tajweed Colouring

**Tajweed** is the set of rules governing the correct pronunciation of the Quran. Canvas visually highlights Tajweed rules directly on the Arabic text using a colour-coding system.

| Colour | Tajweed Rule |
| --- | --- |
| Green | Ghunnah (nasalization) |
| Blue | Ikhfa / Idgham (merging sounds) |
| Red | Qalqalah (echoing sound) |
| Orange | Madd (prolonged vowel) |
| Other colours | Additional Tajweed rules |

Tajweed colouring can be toggled on or off from the display settings. It is on by default in **Read** and **Recite** modes.

> **Note**
>
> Tajweed colouring is a learning aid — it shows you where rules apply but doesn’t replace learning the rules themselves from a qualified teacher.

## Word-by-Word Display

In **Translate mode**, each Arabic word is shown with its transliteration and translation directly beneath it. This word-by-word layout helps you build a connection between the Arabic text and its meaning.

Tap any individual word to see:

- Its standalone meaning
- Its grammatical role in the verse
- How it appears in other verses

## Theme

Canvas supports **light** and **dark** themes. Switch between them from the Settings tab to reduce eye strain during extended reading sessions.
