# Navigating Canvas

Canvas has a clean layout built around the Quran. Here’s a map of the key areas so you know where everything is before you start.

<a id="home-tabs"></a>

## Home Tabs

When you first open Canvas, you’ll see the home screen with a set of tabs across the top:

| Tab | What it opens |
| --- | --- |
| **Quran** | The main Quran reading and navigation interface (default) |
| **Stats** | Your personal statistics — heatmap, hours, pages, rank, streak |
| **Rank** | Your leaderboard position within your organization |
| **Radio** | Stream Quran recitations from a variety of channels |
| **Prayer** | Prayer times based on your location |
| **Settings** | Customize your font, reciter, translation, and theme |

<a id="sidebar-navigation"></a>

## Sidebar Navigation

The sidebar on the left gives you three ways to navigate the Quran:

| Sidebar Tab | What it shows |
| --- | --- |
| **Surah** | All 114 Surahs listed by number and name |
| **Juz** | All 30 Juz (Para) divisions |
| **Page** | All 604 Mushaf pages |

Click any item in the sidebar to jump directly to that Surah, Juz, or Page.

> **Tip**
>
> Use **Surah** when you know which Surah you want. Use **Page** when you’re following along with a physical Mushaf. Use **Juz** for systematic revision across the full Quran.

## Main Reading Area

The centre of the screen is the reading area where Quranic text is displayed. Depending on the mode you’re in, you’ll see:

- Arabic text (with or without Tajweed colouring)
- Word-by-word translation and transliteration
- Verse numbers and navigation controls

<a id="bottom-toolbar"></a>

## Bottom Toolbar

The toolbar at the bottom of the reading area contains:

- **Audio controls** — play, pause, seek, volume, reciter selection
- **Drawing tools** — brush, eraser, colour picker (for annotation mode)
- **Mode switcher** — switch between Read, Translate, Recite, Judge, Tafsir, and Memorize modes

<a id="top-navigation"></a>

## Top Navigation

The top bar contains:

- The **Ilmiya/Canvas logo** — click to return to the home screen
- **Navigation links** — switch between Canvas sections (Practice, Memorize, Stats, etc.)
- **User menu** — access your profile and sign out

<a id="practice--other-sections"></a>

## Practice & Other Sections

Beyond the main reading interface, Canvas has dedicated sections accessible from the top navigation:

| Section | What it’s for |
| --- | --- |
| **Practice** | Structured exercises — drag-and-drop, Qari practice, alphabets |
| **Memorize** | Dedicated memorization mode with goal tracking |
| **Reciters** | Browse and explore all available reciters |
| **Assistant** | Voice AI assistant for Quran questions |
